Schweizer 1-26

This is the 2 meter semi scale Schweizer 1-26 from Dave's Aircraft Works (DAW).

The following photos and notes describe how I built my DAW 1-26.  It differs slightly from the stock version, but you should be able to follow the kit instructions and still reference these photos.

Most of these construction techniques should apply equally to the other DAW foamies like their TG-3 trainer and their WW2 combat series.  In the descriptions below, wherever you see the word "glue", I am talking about using "Goop", the rubbery contact adhesive recommended for the majority of EPP foam construction.  Any other adhesives will be referenced specifically as needed.

Kit contents and construction notes:
The kit comes neatly packaged. Upon opening the box, I was greeted with a large slab of EPP foam cut in the outline of the 1-26 fuselage, and a pair of EPP foam wing panels along with some balsa T.E. stock and spar material.  The balsa tail pieces, and the miscellaneous pieces of control hardware were in separate bags.  The instructions were in the form of several pages of dense text, with some clear schematics showing radio installation, and taping pattern.

First the spar and sub-trailing edge stock were glued to the wing panels, and then trimmed to length.  I used masking tape to keep the sub-trailing edge in firm contact with the back edge of the wing panels until the glue set.  The spars are supposed to be flush with the top surface of the wing.  If the channel is a tad deep (mine were), you can simply glue a filler strip of foam, balsa or something like file folder card stock over the spar to preserve the airfoil shape.
