This will be my first foray into 1/4 scale as well as gasoline engines. I'm sorry to say that as far as kits go, this one is by far the worst I have ever seen or imagined. This is further backed up by comments I've read in the online news groups. All balsa parts were "die-smashed". Imagine cutting ribs from low-graded balsa with a butter knife, better yet, imagine cutting ribs out using a flat-bladed screwdriver - Sheeesh! Most plywood parts
were of the low-grade door skin variety (Home Depot has higher quality stuff than this). These pieces were also randomly pre-scored and pre-cut part way through on the back sides. You are better off buying just the plans.
Kit contents and construction notes:
Opening the box is like looking into a 1/4 scale lumber yard. Lots and lots of wood. A hefty piece of bent aluminum landing gear, 1 sheet of clear plastic for the winshield, and a few bags of miscelaneous parts and fittings, nuts and bolts.
The instructions consist of the following:
- Cover letter thanking you for purchasing the kit and listing a few updates.
- 1-1/2 pages of typewritten instructions telling you more or less what to build with very little mention of how to do it, plus an addtional paragraph on flying/setup. If you don't have a few wood kits under your belt, you may quickly become lost.
- 1/2 page list of parts / materials.
Photos and construction notes begin on the next page.
